Mempro™ Large Unilamellar Vesicles Liposomes

Single (unilamellar) and oligolamellar lipid bilayer vesicles with large diameter have great potential in membrane study. Specifically, large unilamellar bilayer vesicles (with diameter >50 nm) permit the insertion of microelectrodes for measuring the electrical properties of lipid bilayer of different compositions. Those vesicles that are large enough to be observed by light microscopy can be fused with cells, and hence, used to study the mechanism of cell rotation in the presence of an alternating electrical field.

Comparasion of several LUVs construction methods are shown below:
1.Ether injection:
Advantages:
(i) high trapping efficiency
(ii) amenable to gel filtration
(iii) relatively uniform size
(iv) compatible with trapping of solutes and soluble enzymes
2.Cholate dialysis:
Advantages:
(i) ideal for incorporation of cholate-compatible hydrophobic proteins
(ii) amenable to gel filtration
(iii) substitutable with other detergents

Besides LUVs, we also provide other sizes of liposomes, such as Small Unilamellar Vesicles (SUV), Giant Unilamellar Vesicles (GUV) and Multivesicular Vesicles (MVV), and respective analysis service.
